A hideous phrase used by sancitmonious little brats all over the English speaking world.
The reason for my distaste is exemplified in the film, “Cruel Intentions”, in which the unsuspecting Cecile is groomed to sexual awareness by the svelte and savvy Sebastian, only to bid him farewell with a two-finger peace-sign and the words “peace out”.
Keep it in the 1980’s and the Scout Camp. “Peace out” is cringeworthy and pitiful.

And it is done.
Peace out, peace out.
Cruel Intentions, eh? now there’s an entry someone needs to make…
Sounds like P*ss off, really, or the old ’60s and ’70s Peace, man.
Should be abolished.
Only place for peace is at the end of the church service: “Peace be with you.”
yeah, there are some phrases i don’t really like, and as i am not english or from somewhere else where people speak english it’s hard for me to understand. peace out… i’ve never heard about it, see??
maybe you should publish an article about the new expressions in english that turists or those who are learning how to speak english know them, because sometimes it is hard to know what are they talking about, for example, bloke, i didn’t know that. my englsih teacher taught us that. i like this page because you talk about things that we might hate or love. really, i don’t know how did i end up here, but i like this!!!
You guys must not understand it’s a movie that used a symbol badly.
Just stop.
Peace out is a way of saying stay safe to you friends and others.
What is wrong with goodbye.
Saying “stay safe” to your friends is pretty lame too. It deserves to be in here. I think whoever wrote this has been too fair - it annoys the shit out of me, it’s worse than people who say “you know” all the time. NO I DON’T F***ING KNOW! AND IF I DO, WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME!!!!
Oh, Jonny, I can see you when you are my age, shouting at all stupidity!
“STay safe” sounds wet.
“You know” is lame.
“Like”, “whatever”, “So I goes and he goes” [no, says is the right verb.] Our current language is full of unfortunate weakisms.
Yes, goodbye is good, and cheerio, and ciaou, and cheers and bye. After all, if they want people to “stay safe” or “peace out”, goodbye came from God be with you (whichever supreme being you believe in).
Sorry if some of us sound too fair - I think you can’t be too fair, even if you are an Angry Grumpy Cross-grained Reactionary Old Woman (or man)!
that’s right!!! i’m not even english but when i speak it i say you know many times!! it’s stupid!! and i agree with you jonny, they say you know but you don’t!!! i always say good bye!! i’ve never heard about peace out, oh dear!! there’re so many phrases i don’t know!! just speak it as it has to be spken!! please!! there’s no need to invent new words or phrases!!
